Overview
Over the next couple of weeks I hope you will join in a discussion about shared governance here at SUNY Plattsburgh. What it is, what it could be, and what it will be. Although "shared governance" is not a trendy buzzword, it is important, it is an aspect of how we cooperate and coordinate as a community to support the work we do.
These discussions are part of the bylaws review and revision process which occurs every five years. We're beginning the discussion in this format to hopefully allow more voices to participate and be heard. Hopefully the posts you find here will be interesting, and it will provide time and space to share your thoughts. Truly, I encourage you to share your thoughts on any aspect of this. I have already received some useful feedback, and look forward to the comments.
Joining me in coordinating the bylaws review are: Gerianne Downs, Heidi Schnackenberg, Samy Garas, and Sandra Rezac. Please feel free to reach out to any of us with question, comments, or thoughts.
In addition to posts and comments on this site, there will be some polling seeking feedback, meetings with any groups that wish to discuss bylaws, and eventually an informational all-faculty meeting to discuss changes to the bylaws followed by a vote.
Preliminary Schedule:
Context - some observations on how things are done here and at other places
which things - how do we know if we are working on the right things
good governance - how do we measure the quality of governance
effectiveness - how well are we doing and how might we do better
??? -
Draft Revision(s) -
What other topics should we include in our discussion? Other ideas / suggestions for how to proceed?
